The staff’s Editors-in-Chief are Addie Moore, Avery Anderson, Larkin Brundige and Connor Vogel.

The Harbinger is the exclusively student-run news program for Shawnee Mission East High School in Prairie Village, KS. Staffed by approximately 50 dedicated students and overseen by advisor C. Dow Tate, its online and print publications have won a variety of national awards.

The publication is updated with daily published content including stories, videos, live broadcasts, photo galleries and multimedia packages. Select stories are published in its print publication every two weeks in addition.

Partnered with The Harbinger, Harbie Photo is a website run by the student photographers of the newspaper and the yearbook staffs. Updated daily, Harbie Photo allows visitors to purchase prints of high-quality photos at low rates that appear, and don’t appear, in online content or print. All proceeds benefit the SME Journalism program.

To apply to be a part of the spring 2022-2023 Harbinger staff, a program that recently won a 2022 Online NSPA Pacemaker and was a finalist for the 2021 NSPA Newspaper Pacemaker, please contact our email, or fill out an application at the end of first semester (applications in J-room). 21st Century Digital Media (Journalism 1) is not a requirement to be a photographer or online staff member, however, samples of work are required for inclusion in all applications. Completed applications should be delivered to the J-room.
