I wasn’t sure what to expect from Bruno Mars’s new album, “The Romantic,” that was released on Feb. 27. And after the first listen, I was hooked.
After seeing an Instagram post pop up on my feed about his new release, I couldn’t have been more ecstatic. Having him be #1 on my Spotify wrapped shows I’m a major Mars fan, I was very excited to listen to his new album.
After nearly a decade away from solo music, Bruno Mars is back, and his new album, “The Romantic,” feels like a new and improved moment in his career, proving he can still make songs that hit hard and capture the romantic vibe from start to finish.
Gone are the party anthems and flashy hits — this album leans into love, heartbreak and emotional storytelling. Each song has its own style of music, but together the songs create a smooth, cohesive journey..
The singles are already ranking high on Spotify.com with “I Just Might” hitting number one on the charts with almost 2 million listeners. “Risk It All” delivers cinematic energy that proves Mars is still a master of creating music that fans won’t forget.
Musically, the album mixes retro sounds like 70’s soul and disco with modern pop and a mix of Mexican traditional music, giving it a nostalgic feel of his old albums with a fresh feel.
Songs like “Late Night Confession” and “Golden Hour,” continue this theme of heavy emotion.
“Why Do You Wanna Fight?” dives into heartbreak and vulnerability, with lyrics saying “Why you wanna fight with me, baby? Wouldn’t you rather make love tonight?” While “Cha Cha Cha” celebrates the moments of love and joy.
These tracks are reminiscent of traditional music from other cultures, like Mexican rancheras, and feature love, heartbreak, and personal life. As well as mariachi songs, connected to the music and performance also telling a story about love and loss.
But the album isn’t only about the music — the album is also having a tour called: “The Romantic Tour,” with over 30 shows, bringing these new songs to life on stage.
Overall, “The Romantic” isn’t Mars’s typical music, it’s an introduction to a new version of Mars. It’s a feel-good album that can turn me from sad to happy in a second, and I hope he keeps making music like this in the future.
