A Look into TikTok Shop: A review of four items from the new TikTok Shop

I opened my phone at home after school and headed straight to TikTok, as every teenager would. I was immediately caught off guard by the new app feature at the top of my screen — TikTok Shop. 

TikTok shop allows creators to spotlight, promote and sell their favorite products directly on the app through in-feed videos, live streamed videos and the Showcase tab — all without leaving the app. 

The shop was added to TikTok on Sept. 12, but hasn’t been put to full use by creators until recently as it began becoming more popular. Within the past few weeks I’ve seen hundreds of videos promoting and reviewing the new shop. In order to decide if the shop was really worth it I clicked the Shop tab, and added four different items to my cart.

Two Piece Travel Cosmetic Bags

The first products I came across when scrolling through the shop were navy blue flower cosmetic bags. This set of bags was $24 and they are worth every penny. The 9-by-6 and 7-by-2 inch bags are cute and trendy, and are able to hold many large items at once. They’re for packing your toiletries for a trip or even holding all your makeup and skincare products. When I head to Chicago for Thanksgiving break, these bags will be the first thing I reach for when packing.

Smooth On-the-Go Blush Stick

While this $5 blush stick is a dupe for the $18 Pixi On-the-Glow Blush stick, I wouldn’t be able to spot the difference between the two if they were right next to each other. I ordered the blush stick in the shade “shy pink” and it’s the perfect blush for that sun-kissed summer look. While simply just twisting the base of the stick and applying it to your cheek or lips it leaves a soft pale pink to your skin but sadly disappears after a short period of time. While the short-lasting blush stick is far cheaper, I think I might just stick with the Pixi On-the-Glow Blush stick due to its longer wear. 

Everyday Seamless TankTop

The third item I found was a $24 seamless tank top. I selected the “Vintage Denim” color and was nervous about adding it to my cart when I saw the one-size feature of the top. I ordered it anyway. The top has a thin, yet soft quality to it while also being very flattering. It’s stretchy, and while the straps were longer due to the one-size fit of it, I was able to adjust the top to fit my body. This top is comfortable and I know I’ll wear it around my house these next few weeks. 

Gold Hoop Earring Pack

The final item I added to my cart was an 18-pair golden hoop pack, all different sizes and shapes. This earring pack was $6, and while knowing the earring quality would be low due to the cheap price, I was eager to purchase due to my desperate need of new earrings. Despite how light and cute they are I wouldn’t recommend purchasing if you have sensitive ears. These earrings are a bit cheaper, but they don’t turn my ears black or rust like some of my other earrings do, making them a definite repurchase.

While TikTok Shop is generally a cheaper and lower quality online  shop, I know I’ll find myself purchasing some new items sometime soon.
