Vanessa Bryant files wrongful death lawsuit
On Monday, Vanessa Bryant’s attorneys filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the company that operated the helicopter that her husband, Kobe Bryant, her daughter, Gianna Bryant, and seven others were killed on.
The plane crashed into a hill amid dense fog while flying to a youth basketball game in California on Jan. 26. Thousands of fans gathered at the Staples Center in Los Angeles to remember Kobe and Gianna on the same day that the lawsuit was filed.
The lawsuit accuses pilot Ara Zobayan of multiple acts of negligence including failure to abort the flight, failure to monitor and assess the weather and failure to keep a safe distance between natural obstacles and the helicopter.
“Defendant Island Express Helicopters authorized, directed and/or permitted a flight with full knowledge that the subject helicopter was flying into unsafe weather conditions,” the lawsuit states.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing, and a full report is likely to take over a year to complete.
