Winter Sports Update

Girls Basketball

Girls basketball lost all 3 games in their Topeka tournament, bringing them to 1-11 on the season. They play again Tuesday against West, who beat them 53-35 in a matchup earlier this season. Starting PG Kyle Haverty is still out. She was believed to have torn her ACL, but that has since been proven false. Haverty will not be returning in the near future.

Boys Swimming

During this week the team will be competing in league which is the biggest meet of the year besides state. After losing to Blue Valley North the team could use a big win to give them momentum going into State. The team has won eleven straight league titles and are hoping to make it twelve.

Bowling

Last week, the bowling team bowled in two meets at Mission Bowl of Olathe. In the first meet, a combined, coed JV took second with freshman Sophia Flanigan taking first in the meet. The next day, in the Varsity meet, a combined, coed team finished sixth out of six teams. The next day, the Varsity Boys’ team took second with senior Mike Thibodeau coming in second in the meet. The Girls’ came in third.

This week, the team travels to Ranch Bowl on Monday to take on Lawrence Freestate and Turner, and on Wednesday, they go up against Olathe South and Shawnee Mission North at Olathe Lanes East.

Boys Basketball

JV and varsity fell to Rockhurst last Friday. JV lost after a half court shot at the buzzer by Rockhurst ended the game, that ended up being number one on the Sportscenter top ten the next day. In the varsity game, the Hawklets pulled an early lead and never let the Lancers threaten to come back. The 7-6 Lancers have lost their last three games and travel to 11-2 Olathe North on Friday.

Wrestling

On friday the Varsity Wrestling team will compete in the district dual tournament at Shawnee Mission Northwest. Over the weekend, the junior varsity squad competed in the JV wrestling tournament, with William Schmidt taking first place at 160 pounds with a 5-0 record, and Christian Flathman taking first place at 152 pounds. This weekend, the JV squad will compete in the JV league tournament at Olathe North high school, which is one of the last tournaments of the season.
