Winter Sports Update: 1/25-1/29

Boys’ Swimming and Diving

Today there is a meet in Topeka at Hummer Park and it’s one of the bigger meets of the season. The boys are fresh off of a win against Blue Valley North, one of their biggest competitors, so it’ll be interesting to see how they do in Topeka. The meet starts at 4. Then on Friday and Saturday, there is the varsity Sunflower League meet which they’ve won pretty consistently for many years.

The bowling team got second in their meet on Thursday. Senior Gabe Snyder said, “We’re all really working hard on getting our numbers up but having fun doing it. Everyone is really excited and we have a lot of new young blood. We are ready to leave it all on the lanes.”

Girls Basketball:

The girls played well against Gardner-Edgerton on Friday night. The team almost won, but East fouled one of the girls and her free throws put the team in the lead. There is an upcoming tournament and the team is very excited about their chances.

The varsity wrestling team placed eighth at the Paola invitational last Saturday. Freshman Dane Erickson got third at 106. Senior Michael Aldrich got his 100th win. He got second in the tournament at 145. Junior Isacc Schmidt placed third at 182. Sophomore Justin Finnegan got third at 285. The team lost their senior night last Wednesday, to Blue Valley High School 27-37.

Boys Basketball:

In Mcpherson, the varsity team lost last Friday night to BV West by 9. Last Saturday afternoon they beat Wichita North. Jay Guastello scored 16. This Friday, the Rockhurst takes place at East in the main gym at 7 p.m. East lost to Rockhurst earlier this season by 3.
