Last Thursday the Lancer volleyball team won both of their games against Shawnee Mission North (25-17, 26-24) and Shawnee Mission West (25-8, 25-14) leaving them with a 6-1 record in league. Shawnee Mission North proved to be the toughest competition after they nearly took the Lancers to a third game. In the end, the Lancers pulled out a win.
The Lancers have had a successful start to the season, with a five-game winning streak which they hope to continue this week when they play Lawrence Free State Thursday night in Lawrence.
Hayley Hansford, Molly Young and Leyann Dahlgren have proven themselves to be the team’s key players. Hansford is the only setter on the team, and is very consistant. She is the team’s source of energy on the court. Young is the front row power-hitter. She gets big kills and blocks against tough teams. Leyann Dahlgren is very aggressive in the back row, and will dive for anything. She will ultimately dive for anything on the court, making big saves.
Senior night is Oct. 11 against St. James Academy and O’hara. These matches are anticipated to be some of the most challenging of the season, and the Lancers could use as much support as possible.
