Varsity Tennis Places Second at State

Following the Tennis State Championships on Friday and Saturday, the Shawnee Mission East girls varsity team placed second. Blue Valley North placed first, with a six point lead over SM East.

Junior Sarah Wilcox finished second in the highly anticipated singles division against BV North sophomore Chloe Kuckleman.

“I am happy with second place but I really wanted to win this year because last year I was runner up,” Wilcox said, “I beat [Kuckleman] in regionals so it was a tough loss a week later.”

The team only had one senior this year, Joie Feirich. Feirich and her doubles partner, Larkin McLiney, finished third in their semifinals match.

“Even though we have so few seniors, we are a tight knit team,” Wilcox said, “I think the other juniors did a good job helping lead the team.”
