Sweetheart King and Queen Crowned

East’s 2017 Sweetheart King and Queen were announced this past weekend. Ellie Cook was crowned queen at the Varsity basketball game on Friday night and Clayton Phillips was crowned king at the Sweetheart dance on Saturday.

Sweetheart court is a tradition at East. The senior class nominates seven girls and seven boys for the court. Then, the student body votes for king and queen during the week leading up to the dance.

Alumnus Bea Workman, last year’s queen, returned to East to crown Cook queen at the game.

“It’s so sweet” Queen Cook said. “It’s just such a honor to be queen.”

The dance was held in East’s cafeteria on Saturday night. Student Council hosted the event and the theme was Candy Land. Students enjoyed dancing and refreshments and at 10 p.m. Phillips was crowned king.

In addition to queen and king, the  sweetheart court was announced. Haley Bell was crowned 2nd attendant for queen and Deegan Poores was crowned 2nd attendant for king. Tyler Lockton was 1st attendant for queen and Sean McMahill was crowned 1st attendant for king.
