Spring Sports Update: Week Six

Boys’ Tennis

The boys’ varsity tennis team won the Lawrence Invitational over the weekend. Five players went undefeated, while the sixth lost only one game, totaling only one loss for the team. JV won the Sunflower JV Tournament over the weekend as well.

On Monday, April 27, varsity takes on BVN at home, and JV plays them away. Tuesday, April 28, practice will be held as usual, with no games that day. A team dinner will take place after practices. Wednesday, April 30, varsity and JV both take on Rockhurst. On Thursday, May 1, top six Varsity has the Sunflower League tournament at 7:30 am. Friday, May 2 JV plays Washington HS at home. To end the busy week, the Lancers take on Desoto HS on Saturday, May 3.

Baseball

The team is now 10-2 after beating nationally ranked Creighton Prep 8-2. East is now ranked first in the Sunflower League.

They play Olathe East Hawks tomorrow, who are 11-3 coming off a 16-0 loss to Lee Summit West. The team still has seven games left this year, including games against rivals SMS, SMW and SMN.

Boys’ Lacrosse

The team travelled to St. Louis this weekend.  Both JV and varsity did not play well and lost two games.  “We figured out what we need to improve,” junior Sam Hoffman said.  They have one more regular season game against Blue Valley West on Tuesday.

Girls’ Swimming

The Girls’ Swim and Dive was able to win their meet in Wichita this past weekend. Their next meet will be this Wed. against South and it will be their last meet until league. League will take place on Friday and Saturday, May 9th and 10th.

“We’re really nervous for league because if we win this year it will be the 10th year in a row that we will have won,” senior sprinter Madeline Peters said. “Our competition from Free State will be really hard to beat. The girls who don’t have state cuts will shave and taper for league and the girls who already have them will still train at the same pace as we are right now until league and then taper for state.”

Girls’ Lacrosse

The girls’ lacrosse team is in the final stages of their season. The team successfully beat Olathe 17-2 last week on Tuesday, April 22. The varsity team is now 5-2-0 and fourth in the league.

The JV and varsity teams will be playing Blue Valley at Blue Valley Northwest on Wednesday, April 30. The JV team will play at 6:20 p.m. with the varsity team playing right afterwards.

“The games this week are big because Blue Valley is top four and we need a good showing, hopefully a win, in order to secure a place in the playoffs,” junior and goalkeeper Jenn Young said.

Senior night will be held on Friday, May 2 in between the JV and varsity games that night. JV will be playing Pembroke at 6:20 p.m. and the varsity will be playing Olathe at 7:30 p.m. The senior night ceremony will be in between.

Softball

The softball team, currently 3-5, will be playing a finish-game today after school after the game against SM South exceeded the time limit. Currently the girls are at the top of the 12th aginst South.

The next game will be played against SM North on Tuesday, April 29 at the SM Softball Complex. Games have been limited in the past week due to rainouts.

“We’re doing alright we can’t get our hits down but other than that we’re doing ok,” manager Oliva Redelsheimer said.

Girls’  soccer

The girls soccer season is coming to an end, senior night is May 13th. The team has 5 league games left and then regionals and if they do well they will make it to state.

“Our goal for the rest of the season is to win the rest of our games and then make it to state,” sophomore Adelaide Kline said.

Track and Field

The West Invitational was held on Friday, April 25. Boys’ varsity placed fifth, while girls’ varsity placed sixth.

Practice is going on as usual this week. The coaches are focusing on training hard in order to place higher in upcoming meets.

The St. Thomas Aquinas Invitational will be held this Friday, May, 2.
