Recap: East Wins First Football Game Against Leavenworth

With a 34-0 victory over Leavenworth High School last Friday, the Lancers put uncertainty about the new changes to the program to rest.

The East defense was stellar, only allowing the Pioneers’ explosive offense 75 total yards and holding their D1 bound running back, Jason Randall to 48 yards rushing. The Pioneers’ offensive line didn’t have an answer to defensive linemen Dominique Atkinson and Kyle Ball, who contributed to numerous tackles for loss and sacks.

“We played like a unit,” junior linebacker Sam Pottenger said. “We all did our jobs and played like we meant business.”

The defense also held the Pioneers to 4 yards passing. Junior safety Charlie White had two interceptions.

The Lancer offense exploded, recording 459 yards of total offense, and five touchdowns, scored by wingback Mitchell Tyler, quarterback Christian Blessen, and running back Luke Taylor. The Pioneers couldn’t stop the Lancers, who didn’t punt once during the entirety of the game. The Lancers’ flexbone offense thrived, with 360 total rushing yards, and eventually opened up the passing lanes for 99 passing yards.

Coach Delaney announced the players of the week on the East Football Twitter Account @SME_Football as: Defense: Kyle Ball, Offense: Mitchell Tyler, Special Teams: Charlie White, Scout Team: Charlie Jensen.

The Lancers play Lawrence High School next Friday, Sept. 13 in Lawrence. The Harbinger Online will be broadcasting the game.
