Athlete of the Week — Griffin Keeter

By

Freshman Griffin Keeter is a fresh talent on the track and cross-country team. Whether it is running the 5K at a cross-country meet or the long distance runs at track meets, his young legs have contributed to both teams at East.

Now having experienced a full season of cross-country and over half a season of track, Keeter decided he likes track more than cross-country.

“Track is a lot of fun to be at the meets,” Keeter said. “I like watching other people running and there is a lot more variety than cross-country.”

Keeter began running before middle school with his brother, Max. They run together and bond while chatting and getting exercise. Keeter ended up enjoying the sport of running, and he decided to put more time and commitment into it by joining both the cross-country and track teams.

With a rather fast time of 4:41 for the one mile and a 10:10 for the two-mile at his latest track meet, Keeter still competes against several upperclassmen that are faster than him. However, he still has three years ahead of him to keep improving those times, which is a luxury many other varsity runners don’t have.
