Rathbun was a four year varsity soccer player and a role model on and off the field. He could lighten you with his smile and his goofy demeanor. After he broke Coach Kelly’s record of goals he kept his humble attitude and kept focused on state. He never was about himself and always was about the team and the fans. His last tweet before he passed away was “I have never been so proud to say I got to play with such an amazing group of guys. Fans you guys were AMAZING #smesoccer2012”. Even if you met him for the first time there was something about him that made you feel as if you two were old friends. On Sunday morning, Shawnee Mission East didn’t just lose a student, we lost a brother. No matter how many years pass, Tyler Rathbun will always be engraved into our hearts. RIP Tyler Rathbun
