Recap: Football vs. Lawrence

The Lancers moved past week one of the playoffs and won their region with a 35-7 victory over Lawrence High school. The Chesty Lions scored on the first possession of the game before the Lancers responded with their 35 unanswered points.

The Lancer offense scored on its first possession when senior Jackson Gossick’s sweep finished a drive built on rushing up the middle of the field. Senior Sam Huffman’s first of two rushing touchdowns followed soon after.

Momentum shifted to East for good with two minutes left in the first half. East led by 14, 21-7. The Lions put the ball on the half yard line in a drive of sustained rushing. On 4th and goal, the Lawrence ball carrier dove forward to meet the East defensive line forcing him back.

East maintained control for the rest of the game, adding two more touchdowns in the second half.

Both teams relied on their ball carriers on offense. Senior quarterback Gunnar Englund attempted one pass during the game. Junior Wyatt Edmisten led the team in rush yards, including two touchdowns.
