Preview: Football vs. SM North

As the undefeated Lancers take the field tonight, they have the opportunity to break school and league.

A win tonight anchors the first undefeated season in East history. If senior Gunnar Englund and his offense score 16 points, they will also set the Sunflower League record for points scored in the regular season. Up against the 2-6 SM North Indians, the stage is set for the Lancers to end their perfect season with a bang.

With only two wins in the last two years, SM North has the worst record in the Sunflower League. However, SM North is the only Sunflower League team that leads the Lancers in their passing offense. Sophomore quarterback Will Schneider leads the league in passing yards with 1,613 yards and 18 touchdowns, 11 of which were connecting to senior Nick Perez.

Schneider will match up against the Lancers’ defense, which allows an average of 187 yards per game. Meanwhile, East expects to counter North’s aggressive passing offense with their solid rushing game. Anchored by junior Wyatt Edmiston, who has carried the ball for 759 yards and 18 touchdowns this season, the Lancers’ offense averages 327 yards per game and is virtually unstoppable when it gets into rhythm.

Tonight’s game will take place at SM North District Stadium. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. and the theme is Halloween costumes. Can’t make it to the game? Watch the broadcast here.
