Preview: Cross Country State Championship

The Kansas 6A state cross country championship begins tomorrow morning at Rim Rock in Lawrence, Kansas. Seven boys from East will compete in the five kilometer run over the steepest course the state has to offer. Two girls will also be competing in the four kilometer run tomorrow.

East runners Maddie Wilson and Theresa McAlister took 10th and 13th respectively in regionals to move on to state. They will be representing the East girls’ team as individual qualifying athletes.

The entire boys varsity team qualified for state for the first time in 12 years. Seven boys will be entered in the race, while three will serve as alternates. They will also be accompanied by senior Marshall Green, who was not able to compete prior in the season due to a leg injury.
