What this means and how it can impact you:
If passed, this bill would introduce changes to the school finance formula, education in career and technical fields and the evaluation of teachers. This bill guarantee that schools would receive no less funding in 2013-2014 than in the two previous years. School transportation would no longer be included in the base funding of a school, however. The bill discourages schools from funding Career Technical Education (CTE) programs within 30 miles of a college that offers them. The most controversial part of this bill is that individual staff reports for teachers and administers would be posted on the district website, and no student will be given a teacher ranked ineffective for two years straight. The weighting for the grade will be based 50 percent on student performance, 40 percent on peer and administration evaluation, and 10 percent on contribution to the profession. If this bill passes, the district would be able to terminate a teacher rated ineffective for two years in a row.
