In honor of Veteran’s Day, Brookwood Elementary School invited Undersecretary of the Army Joseph Westphal to speak, along with Korean War veteran and former Marine Al Lemieux. Westphal is the second highest ranked civilian in the Army and was recently nominated as the United States Ambassador to Saudi Arabia. He has served as the Undersecretary since 2009 and also worked in the Obama administration.
At Brookwood this morning, Westphal talked to the elementary students about the Pledge of Allegiance and freedom of religion in schools. He was introduced by Lemieux, who briefly discussed his time in Korea. Also included in the event was several performances by the Brookwood choir and a presentation of the colors by two Boy Scout troops.
