Dearest Harbinger-Online Blog Readers,

They call me Katy Westhoff, known on Facebook as Katy McAwesome Westhoff, and I am here to impress you with my wit and book-reading-skills. You’re reading this blog, and I find it only fair to be frank with you, dear blog readers. Let me break it down:

On January 1st of 2009, I embarked on a journey to read fifty books in one year. It’s a challenge, but one I’m willing to face. Thus far, I have completed 60 percent of the 50-books-in-a-year challenge, including titles such as Everything is Illuminated and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Johnathan Safran Foer, The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid by Bill Bryson, and Cat’s Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut. In November, I’ll be mostly focusing on my National Novel Writing Month novel, in which I will attempt heroically to write fifty thousand words by December 1st at midnight.

The movie rights are up for grabs as I type. I’ll be the next Julia and Julie or Julie and Julia or Jules and Julian or whatever it is. Except more nerdy. And with less readers. But that’s what I’ll be blogging about: my 50-books-in-a-year-challenge.

Come January of 2010, the blogging will continue, but I’m not yet sure what’ll happen. I’ll probably just dissolve into the normal book-obsessed nerd I am. Now, I’ll try not to bore you too much with the plots and symbolism and interesting points of whatever book I happen to be blogging about. I’ll incorporate some other factions of Nerd-dom. There might be a Pokemon or Star Wars reference, more than enough Harry Potter allusions to make you crave fanfiction, and just general internet-fangirl shenanigans.

It’ll be an adventure for all of us, this weekly (though probably fortnightly) blog of mine.

See you soon –

Yours,

Katy
