Recap: Girls’ Lacrosse Tournament in Arkansas

By

The girls’ varsity lacrosse team competed in the NWA Lax Fest tournament in Rogers, Ark. last weekend. The twelve girls split up into different cars to make the trip down Saturday morning for their 1 p.m. game against Millard, Neb. in which they won 18-0. They played with no subs that game, but two more girls drove down for the second game at 4 p.m. against Owasso, Okla. and won 18-0 again. Another girl arrived that night so that she could play in the games the next day. Their third game was on Sunday, when they played Arkansas NWA Black Diamonds at 9 a.m. and won 13-1. They beat the Oklahoma Jenks 15-0 in their final game at 2 p.m. Sunday, which they played with only one sub after two girls left early and two sat out with injuries.

Even with the lack of subs, the team managed a total score of 64-1 from the entire weekend.

“In a way, you wish you’d have more competition,” sophomore Kate Danciger said. “But it is always fun when everyone on your team can score, even the defense.”

The team was happy to win all four games, but head coach Kevin Krause was more focused on team building and working on certain plays. The team looked at the tournament as more of a practice than important games.

“We worked on working some of the players into different positions and having everybody feel more comfortable playing multiple positions,” Krause said.

They competed in the same tournament last year and had similar results, winning all four games.
