The Kansas Highway Patrol are teaming up with law enforcement agencies for their annual campaign to make sure all high school students are buckling up each time they drive. From Monday, Feb. 24 to Friday, March 7, anyone caught not wearing their seatbelt will be issued a citation.
“You owe it to yourself to be taking care of yourself and to the rest of the people,” senior Meg McAlister said. “It sets a good example and you want little kids to be wearing seat belts too. It’s going to keep you safe and it’s just a bad idea not to do it.”
According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, only 81 percent of teenagers had their seatbelts on last year. This is a 20 percent increase from five years ago.
