People trickled in from the dodgeball tournament on Nov 11 and into the Lancer of the Year competition, organized by senior class president David Beeder. Seniors Beck Johnson, Maddy Rich, Brooks Anthony, Amanda Privitera, Amelia Winters, Matt Creidenberg and junior Robert Enders took their seats in front of 13 fans.

StuCo replaced the Singled Out Competition this year with Lancer of the Year.

“Singled out had always been a senior tradition but I assessed the situation and felt that it was dated for our generation.” Beeder said “So I wanted to try something new and see how the students reacted to it.”

They planned for about 20 participants but only seven competed. The winner was not only Lancer of the Year, but they also received a free MORP ticket and a marked parking spot.

Before the competition, the fans had one chance to shoot a bouncy ball from the three point line in the auxiliary gym. If they made it they got one free MORP ticket. Three lucky people got the chance to go to MORP for free.

Next, the StuCo members started the tournament. They started off getting into two groups of two and one group of three to make up dances to the school song. The crowd judged this one, whichever group got the most applause won. Johnson and Privitera took the prize, but instead of dancing they stood side by side and yelled the school song at the top of their lungs.

The second round was an intense game of dodgeball. The competitors made two teams of four, one team added judge Paul Wolff to make their teams even. The teams competed for about two minutes. A team complete with all seniors made the winning team.

The third part of the contest consisted of multiple choice East-related trivia. Judges asked questions like “which teacher is an East graduate and played in the marching band?” and “who scored the most goals in boys soccer this year?” The contestants tested for 10 minutes, and Beck Johnson won this round.

After ten minutes of the judges collaborating, it was announced that Johnson would become Lancer of the Year.
