The School Board voted to start contract negotiations with Dr. Jim Hinson at last night’s School Board meeting to take the role of new superintendent of the Shawnee Mission School District.
“I could not be more pleased [with their choice for the new superintendent],” associate principal John McKinney said. “I don’t know a lot about Mr. Hinson, but I understand that he had a really productive time as superintendent of the Independence school district. I’m looking forward to seeing what he brings to Shawnee Mission. I trust that the board made the right decision and I’m looking forward to working with him.”
Dr. Hinson was most recently the superintendent in Independence, MO. Coming to Shawnee Mission is like coming home for him. He used to live in Fairway, where his daughter grew up. After he signs his contract, he’ll take over as superintendent in the 2013-2014 school year.

“I did get into it and I looked up every single animal, and the how the weird battlefields worked or whatever the habitat was,” Wilkerson said. “Most of it was just applying some logic but [the March Mammal Madness tournament] was a fun and easy way to get some extra credit.”
