Living Life Eccentrically

An excess of ideas begin swimming around my head as soon as I’m told I should write
something on here. But what to choose? Do I write an inspirational piece about the 91-
year-old woman with Alzheimer’s I met this weekend who could recite entire poems
she learned when she was ten? Perhaps I should tell about the very interesting funeral of
our cat, buried in an X-Box container, during which my brother decided he would honor
my Jewish step-mom by attempting to speak “Hebrew” as he sprinkled dirt on the cat’s
grave? Or better yet, do I write about my grandfather’s bowling ball field? (Picture an
empty field with around a thousand bowling balls on metal spikes.) I can’t decide. So,
why don’t I just push those other topics back down where they came from and write
about me, Natalie. Okay, so here goes– three-truths-and-a-lie-style.

I have four parents who enjoy getting together and playing the
Newlywed DVD Game.

Favorite movie? It’s a draw between Dirty Dancing, The Mummy,
and Scooby Doo and the Alien Invaders.

I spend a quality amount of time on YouTube listening to the Bed
Intruder Song on repeat.

Favorite Harry Potter character? Arthur Weasley.

I was about to ask if anyone guessed which one isn’t true, but then I remembered that this
was a one-sided conversation. So, I will just come right out and admit that my favorite
movies are Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, The Mummy Returns, and Scooby Doo on
Zombie Island – no bad guys in masks for me.

Truly, I mean, what more is there to know about me? I’m opinionated,
confrontational, and outspoken at times, though I do try to keep an open mind and
value others’ opinions. I can do a mean Russian accent, but I don’t enjoy letting
people hear it and I’m a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Jersey Shore, and Lost.

So there. That’s me.

To some I may seem strange. A more sensitive person might call me “quirky”
or “eccentric”, but I’m fine with plain “weird”. As my dad says, everyone is
somebody’s weirdo (though I believe I have a substantial amount of people who call
me their weirdo). I’m truly okay with being called these things, because that’s what I
am. Life without a little bit of drama, intrigue, and abnormality just isn’t entertaining
and it’s not a life I would want to live. I don’t know about anyone else, but as AP
English teacher Jeannette Bonjour recently put it: “I’d rather be different than dull.”

So, bask in being awesomely different, people. Because that’s what makes life
interesting.
