Kansas Senate Race Causes Tension

The Kansas senate race is getting national attention this year. Kansas is becoming a major issue, with the majority in the senate at stake for both parties. A Republican win would help give them a majority for the first time in President Barack Obama’s presidency. Incumbent Republican Senator Pat Roberts is down in the polls to independent Greg Orman in a traditionally red state.

What was once a three way race, is now a head to head competition between Orman and Roberts. Democrat Chad Taylor dropped out of the race on Sept. 18, not believing he could, after the Kansas Supreme Court ruled that Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach couldn’t keep him on the ballot against his will. Two suits were filed to keep Taylor on the ballot, the first by Kobach and another by a Democrat connected to the Republican governor.

A recent poll shows Orman leading Roberts. Traditionally Republican Kansas could be the difference in the Republicans taking control of both houses of the government.
