Students Gain Experience from Jobs

By Harrison Short

Anything from scooping ice cream to washing cars to mowing lawns. Students have jobs. Not all students have a job, in fact most students do not have a job because they are too busy with sporting events or drama.

Many students mow lawns for money because you can mow the lawn whenever you want. Also, y ou can decide the price for the lawn. Another thing is that you can find your own customers. Freshman Will Amrein mows lawns for money.

“I do most of my mowing on the weekend,” Amrein Said. “It takes up a lot of my time, But it is worth it.”

Amrein mows eight lawns a week. Most of his customers are older people that live on his street because they are normally unfit to mow their own lawn and are willing to pay someone they know. He mows each lawn for around $20 to $25. He has mowed lawn for about three years.

He and one of his neighbors, freshman Peter Moriarty do it together. They use sit down       auto-matic  lawn mowers. It takes about an hour for the front and backyards. But, if there are leaves it can take up to about two hours a lawn.

Other students, like junior Mitch Sauls work other jobs. Mitch works at Waterway which washes cars by hand. He is one of the people who washes the cars. He works Monday, Wednesday, and  Saturday.

On Monday and Wednesday he works from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and gets home around      9:30 p.m. On Saturdays he works from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m.

“I like working there because a lot of kids from east work there,” Sauls said. “Also because I get a paycheck and tips from each car I wash.”

Sauls has worked there for about one and a half years.

East students have all sorts of jobs and make all different pay. They need the money to for gasoline and just whatever they want.
