On Wednesday, Oct. 9, the East girls’ golf team won the Sunflower League invitational. In the third of three rounds, East scored 340 points, securing the win over Olathe Northwest with a score of 371 and Olathe East with a score of 386. Though they were down by nine points, they came back for the win.

“We were down by nine, but we had some pretty low scorers,” senior Sophie Wetzler said. “The other teams didn’t play well, so we beat them by a lot.”

Wetzler, with a total score of 80 in the last round, will be fourth on the first state team. With a score of 82, senior Jessica Young will be first on the second state team. Senior Alex Maday, with a score of 87, will be third on the second team, and freshman Teagan Noblit, who scored 91, will be sixth on the second team. Senior Annie Foster, who scored 97, received an honorable mention.
