Gallery: Varsity Soccer vs. Washburn Rural State Consolation Game

The Lancers were defeated 4-3 by Washburn Rural on Nov. 5, ending their season in 4th place in the state. The Lancers took a quick lead in the game, but Washburn tied it 1-1 with 23 minutes left in the first half. Less than a minute later, a bicycle kick goal by senior Luke Ramey restored the Lancers’ lead for the rest of the half. Washburn Rural scored the first goal of the second half to tie the game 2-2. Another quick response by the Lancers, senior Clayton Phillips scored with an assist by junior Tommy Nelson within a minute of Washburn’s goal, putting the Lancers ahead 3-2. With 33 minutes left in the game, Washburn scored another game tying shot. A Washburn Rural penalty kick went in to give Washburn the lead for the first time. Washburn maintained their lead for the final 17 minutes of the game to secure the 3rd place title.
