The choral department was originally under the direction of Jess Rose when the school was started in 1958 until 1970 when Dan Zolllars became the director. After his retirement in 1993, Rika Heruth lead the choir program. Only a few years later, however, Tracy Resseguie took her place until his retirement in 2008.

Since then, Ken Foley, along with Faith Hamilton-Trent as accompanist, have been in charge of the choral department. Foley also co-directs musical productions with theater teachers Brian Cappello and Tom DeFeo. The choir program is supported by the Choir Boosters, a group of parents that organize fundraisers and events benefiting the department.

East offers five choir classes to students. The Concert Choir is for freshman. Sophomores are split up by gender; Chansonettes is for the girls and Varsity choir is for the boys. Choraliers is a mixed choir of both juniors and seniors. The Chamber Choir is a select group of 24 singers, for which auditions are held every year in March. During auditions, students have to sight read and do rhythm activities.

Every other year, the Choraliers take a trip abroad to perform. Previously, they have gone to England, Belgium, Germany and Austria.

Both solo and choir contest take place in the spring. East is allowed to send about thirty students to solo contest to compete against soloists from other schools. Each year, East takes its gender choirs and Choraliers to compete at contest. Last year, all three choirs came back having received a one, the highest score possible.

The choir concerts take place in the fall, winter and spring. The spring concert is split up into two parts: the beginning is classical music while the second part of the concert has a theme. In 2009, the theme was the Beatles and in 2010, the theme was Disney. The choir banquet is in May of every year. At the banquet, the director gives out letters, medals and other awards from events throughout the year. The banquet is followed by Senior Spotlight, which is similar to a talent shows and honors the senior class of each year.
