Eastipedia: The Archives

Many have heard of the the archives, but not many know what they are actually for or where they are.  To start, the archives are split into two areas, simply called the upper and lower archives.

The lower archives are located by the health rooms and are used for storage. They also contain the air handler (a device used to condition and circulate air as part of a heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning) for the auditorium. Sports equipment is locked in “cages” and there are shelves of records and old yearbooks. Custodial materials such as carpet squares are also kept there.

The upper archives are located next to the main gym. Like the lower archives, it is used by custodians, administration and the theatre department to store a variety of supplies. The air handler for the gym is also located there, along with different vents that go throughout the school. Theatre stores scenery platforms and other set pieces up there, and other organizations such as STUCO and band store things there too. At first glance, it looks like there is a lot of junk up there, but contents are important.

Students are not allowed in the archives, but that doesn’t mean many haven’t. Despite the dangers, students have been up there, often to cause shenanigans. Teacher and technical director Tom Defeo has had to deal with a lot of the damages caused by this.

“[My worst story] was when [some students] took a bunch of paint pigment and they decided to throw it up in the air and break the boxes,” Defeo said, It sprayed powdered paint all over everything up there.”
