Cucumber Recall

By

The Shawnee Mission School District announced on Wednesday, Sept. 9 that they may have served cucumbers containing salmonella.

SMSD’s food vendor, US Foods, told them they had likely shipped contaminated cucumbers to the district. US Foods was very apologetic for the unfortunate event, and the district is making efforts to dispose of the cucumbers. However, they fear some may have been served at schools before hearing about the recall.

The possible schools that may have served the contaminated cucumbers include Apache, Benninghoven, Briarwood, Brookwood, Comanche, Crestview, Hocker Grove, Marsh, Merriam, Nieman, Overland Park, Rosehill, Rushton, Shawanoe, Shawnee Mission North, Shawnee Mission West, Tomahawk, Trailwood and Westridge.

Even though the cucumbers have already been shipped out to schools, each school is taking steps to dispose and get rid of the cucumbers. This information has also been shared with parents at each school, and the schools are assuring parents that no cucumbers will be served until they are deemed safe again.
