Cross Country Holds Annual Pumpkin Run

The top 21 boys and girls will be participating in the Rim Rock Invitational run on Saturday Sept. 28. The rest of the team ran the annual Pumpkin Run, a 5K that starts and finishes on the East track, on Thursday Sept. 26.

The program decided to have the Pumpkin Run about five years ago, when head coach Tricia Beaham came up with the idea.

“One of the big meets that we have every season is the Rim Rock meet, but we can only take 21 people [of each gender],” said assistant coach Michael Chaffee. “The rest of the people on the team, the other 100 or 150 people would not have the opportunity to race that weekend, so [coach Beaham] came up with the fun idea.”

The Pumpkin Run had a high school race, as well as a race for middle school runners. The top three finishers of the pumpkin run received a pumpkin, the top eight finishers received socks and top 30 finishers, as well as seniors, received shirts.
