Registration for Student Council’s third annual Color Run opened last Tuesday. The Color Run is a five kilometer fundraiser  in which participants are doused in brightly colored powder along the route. The run will take place on April 22 at 9 a.m., starting in the East parking lot. Participants can sign up for a $10 fee, or choose to volunteer at the event by helping work the water stations, run the registration booth and more.

All proceeds will benefit the SME Love Fund, which supports East students and parents  in financial need. Although the route will be the same as last year, other changes include a different DJ, an updated logo and new sponsors.

Preparation has involved contacting vendors for shirts, decor and snacks, according to senior student body president Mazie Brooke. STUCO worked with the Prairie Village police to set up the date and route, as well as communicate with homeowners along the route to notify them of the event.

“I like to see all people coming together,” Brooke said. “It’s really fun to see not only students, but all types of people within the neighborhood and feeding schools. It’s also satisfying to know we are the ones who put it on and brought these people together.”
