Originally introduced in the 2011 session, the bill would increase testing and then evaluate a student’s progress. An intervention system would be established in apprehension of failing to reach testing goals.

Students 16 or older would be exempt from the compulsory attendance requirements of traditional school enrollment and attendance if they were enrolled in an alternative educational program deemed appropriate by the local board of education or if the student, parent/guardian and principal agree to the withdrawal of the student’s compulsory attendance.
