East Students, Teacher Perform at Theatre in the Park

Three students from East, as well as AP English teacher Jeanette Bonjour, performed in “Children of Eden” at Theater in the Park last weekend.  “Children of Eden’s” storyline was based off of the disagreements between children and their parents which has been going on for millennia. Senior Justin and sophomore Tyler Armer sang in the Tenor Ensemble, while their brother senior Alec Armer sang in the Bass Ensemble. When asked how he and his brothers received the opportunity to act at Theater in the Park, Alec said, “Justin and I have done stuff there in the past.”

This is certainly true, as the Armers are not new to the stage life. The three brothers have acted on multiple stages for other musicals and plays including East’s very own, “The Drowsy Chaperone.” Justin and Alec Armer won Blue Stars for their performace.

Children of Eden is based off of the story of Genesis in the Bible. Bonjour played Mama Noah. “She is a stand-by-her man sort of woman,” Bonjour said, “and she loves her family fiercely. She finally inserts herself into Noah’s relationship with God when she realizes that Noah must make his own choice about an important matter.”

“[Ms. Bonjour]’s got a huge personality, and an even bigger voice,” said Alec Armer.

Bonjour’s favorite song she sang was “Ain’t it Good” at the end of the show. “It’s upbeat and celebratory, and the audience really gets into it,” she said. “It’s just a lot of fun to sing.”

Bonjour has also been in many musicals. “My first show was a musical at camp the summer before seventh grade,” said Bonjour. Bonjour is planning on auditioning for “Les Miserables” at the J, in August.
