Art Students Sweep State Competition

Breaking Boundaries

Drawing teacher Jason Filbeck has been joking all year that SME needs to sweep the Shawnee Mission School District Art Show. This past weekend, the art students of East almost did just that.

“East was very well represented,” Filbeck said. “It looked like a little East parade up on the stage when they were announcing the awards on Sunday.”

Winning more awards than the other SMSD high schools combined, East won numerous judges’ awards as well as grand awards.

All of the artwork displayed in the district show will be on display for the school show, which will be set up this week.
